September 2021 in Prevention

Thank you Sublette School District #1

We want to celebrate and thank Sublette #1 School District administrators for choosing to let us train 140 teachers, librarians, bus drivers, and administrators in QPR suicide prevention on August 30 and 31. Suicide prevention training is required by the State of Wyoming for all teachers. Most schools accomplish this with an online 2 hour training. Sub#1 elected to have the coalition provide this training this year in person, in small groups, to provide more opportunity for conversation, and to emphasize local mental health resources.

Our 8 QPR trainers were also able to promote the community mental health fund at the trainings, and tell the story of how Sublette is one of only 2 counties in Wyoming who have a system and funds in place to provide counseling services for all children, adults, and families who choose, regardless of ability to pay.

Special thanks and recognition to these people at Sub1 for working to make this happen:

David Shaw, Director, Special Services

Eric Makelky, Principal, Pinedale Middle School

Brian Brisko, Principal, Pinedale High School

John Snell, Principal, Skyline Academy

Greg Legerski, Pinedale Elementary School

Lisa Ruckman, Transportation Director

Thanks also to these awesome QPR trainers for their very special dedication to promoting mental health and suicide prevention in Sublette County:

Bill Lehr Mardy Sleight

Carolyn Normington Jen Wilkinson

Matthew Daniels Melinda Bobo

Randy Belton
