MAY 2023 IN PREVENTION

THANK YOU to these community partners for their prevention work in April! Thank you to Deputy Marlene Johnston of the Sheriff’s office for teaching TIPS - Alcohol Beverage Server training - on April 11 to servers from Waterhole #3, Wind River Brewing Company, and Stockman’s. Thank you Sheriff KC Lehr for supporting TIPs. Thank you Sublette County State Representative Albert Sommers for attending the Suicide Prevention Task Force on April 3. We are grateful for Rep. Sommers' willingness to listen to local concerns. Rep. Sommers is a well informed and hardworking advocate for children’s education, health, and safety. Thank you to Carie James at the Southwest Sublette County Pioneers for partnering for the next Community Drug Take Back Lunch at the Marbleton Senior Center coming up on May 31. Thank you to Sub 9 educators and staff for their persistence with vape prevention with Big Piney middle school students. On April 17 school nurse Tonia Hoffman and school SRO Deputy Ryan Day explored tough questions with BPMS 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. What do you want adults to know about vaping? What are we doing well to prevent kids starting to vape, and what could we do better? The students' answers are being used to inform school policies and approaches to preventing vape use. Thank you to Stephanie Sprenger of the Sublette County Attorney’s Office for her work with Sublette youth who have a MIP (minor in possession) of tobacco/vapes charge. Thank you to County Attorney Clayton Melinkovich and to all Sublette school district administrators for supporting an education and intervention approach to consequences for MIP of tobacco/vapes.
