Many thanks to these May 2023 partners in prevention!
To Sublette State Rep. Albert Sommers for collaborating with the coalition to get "boots on the ground” information to state lawmakers as they consider mental health funding. To Sublette School District #9 Social Worker Melissa Mitchell and Sub#9 School Nurse Tonia Hoffman for their diligent work providing data and numbers on K-12 mental health needs to legislators on the Interim Education Committee. Thank you to Sublette County Treatment Court Coordinator Cassie Crumpton for providing data and information on the delivery of mental health services in Sublette to the state Mental Health and Vulnerable Adult Task Force.
Thank you Carie James and the Southwest Sublette Pioneers for hosting the Drug Take Back Lunch on May 31. Thank you to the Bank of Sublette County for sponsoring the lunch for seniors and all participants; many thanks to Sheriff KC Lehr and Deputy Chris Ryan of the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office for providing safe disposal of all unused medications. In the past year the Sheriff's Office has safely disposed of over 325 lbs of unused medications - this is good news for children's safety and the health of our rivers and fish!
Thank you to Bridges of Sublette County for providing an awesome and very well attended community training on May 19. Everything that Bridges works on is what we call “upstream” prevention. It is the goal of Bridges to “create a sustainable community where everyone can live well.” We heartily endorse that goal. We are very lucky to have this organization in Sublette County.
To High Country Behavioral Health Quit Tobacco class participants, who make Tuesday night Quit Tobacco groups lively and meaningful. Thank you to Peggy Weber for co-facilitating the groups.
Thank you to those who attended the May BOCES QPR - Question, Persuade, Refer 1 hour community suicide prevention training. Thank you Rev. Melinda Bobo for teaching. The next free BOCES QPR class is Wednesday July 19 at 5:30 PM. QPR classes include a light dinner. Please register on the BOCES website. https://subletteboces.ce.eleyo.com/course/322/adult-spring-2023/qpr-training
Thanks to new partners at the Wyoming Dept of Agriculture we will be promoting 988 with a chute sponsorship and announcements at the Chuckwagon Days Youth Rodeo. Thank you to Brianne Brower at the Sublette fairgrounds and to champion QPR trainer Mardy Sleight for collaborating to make this happen.
There are transitions happening in the coalition - We want to thank Robin Carnes for co-chairing the ATODS Task Force for the past 4 years. Robin brought great enthusiasm for data, and a voice for finding “the middle path,” when considering alcohol abuse prevention messaging.
Thank you to Matthew Daniels for co-chairing the Suicide Prevention Task Force since its beginning in late 2018. Matthew brought a diverse and valuable skill set to the task force. He taught many QPR classes, became certified in ASIST suicide prevention skills training, and provided valuable tech knowledge as we navigated keeping people engaged in prevention during the wild world of the pandemic.
We are grateful that both Robin and Matthew will stay involved with the coalition, as time permits.
In other transitions: I will be retiring from the coalition coordinator role on September 1. It has been my honor and privilege to work with the Public Health team to serve Sublette County. It is our goal to have an easy transition for the coalition and the new coordinator. Please help us recruit the next coalition coordinator by sharing the job opening in your networks: https://www.sublettecountywy.gov/Jobs.aspx
