APRIL 2022 in PREVENTION

Happy Spring! Here’s what’s happening this month in Prevention: Monday April 4, Suicide Prevention Task Force met and discussed current and future school needs for the MH fund, among other critical topics. Thank you to all who attended this productive meeting. Please see the attached minutes. Tobacco Prevention Task Force Tuesday April 12, 12 - 1 PM. On the agenda:

  • Evaluate current and future Quit Tobacco groups for High Country.and future possible quit groups for the medical clinics.

  • Revise the work plan to reflect new CDC goals

  • Special invitation: If you are a school person reading this please consider attending this meeting. We currently lack school input on youth tobacco prevention.

  • New coalition photo scheduled for today! Our current photo is 3 years old. Please come and represent your organization in a photo.

  • Vote on the ‘2023 - ‘2024 grant work plan proposal.due on May 2. If there are any harsh objections to the draft application we need to hear from you - you are the community in the “community prevention grant”. - Your voice is important.

  • Task force news and updates.

2022 Veterans Affairs Community Clergy and Suicide Prevention training: Differentiate Moral Injury from PTSD, and Prevent Suicides by Building Spiritual Strength. Monday April 18 from 6-8 PM Respectful of all faiths, non-proselytizing. The training is for all interested community members. On zoom at St. Andrew’s Church. Contact Randy Belton for more info: 307-231-1450. VA Chaplains came to Pinedale in 2019 to provide this valuable training. 12 Sublette people from wide backgrounds - law enforcement, bartenders, counseling clinics, and churches attended and all participants agreed it was excellent. We highly recommend this community training! Coming in May: ASIST: APPLIED SUICIDE INTERVENTION SKILLS TRAINING. Friday and Saturday May 6 and 7 8:30am - 4pm both days St. Andrew’s Church 2 spots left. Big shout out and thank you to all those registered! 2 spots left. Please call Trisha for more info: 307-749-5004 Wyoming Survey Analysis Center (WYSAC) in Pinedale to conduct a listening session on the 5 year Statewide Prevention Plan. Friday May 20. Time and location TBD. We will be joined in Pinedale by coalition members from Sweetwater, Fremont, Lincoln, Teton, and Unita Counties. This is a great opportunity to hear from our surrounding counties about needs and programs in their communities. We can have 3 people from the Sublette coalition attend. Please contact Trisha if you are interested or would like more info. We are running 2 media campaigns right now:

  • To educate on the harms and impacts of high potency/concentrate THC on adolescent brain development

  • To support parents with ways to talk to tweens and teens about alcohol ahead of graduation.
