Vitamin D

For many of us in Sublette County, a lack of sunlight and long cold winters can lead to feeling crabby and unable to see the sunny side of life. These symptoms can be a sign of Vitamin D deficiency.

Sublette County Nurse Practitioner, Leslie Hagenstein, states that โ€œLiving where we do, at 42 - 43 degrees latitude, we cannot get enough vitamin D from the winter sun alone. The sun is too low from November to March and the light rays are too weak to be able to get enough Vitamin D.โ€

If you think your mood and energy are low, you may benefit from getting your Vitamin D levels checked to see if you should take a Vitamin D supplement.

One immediate solution: You can boost your energy and mood with a brisk walk. Leslie encourages us to โ€œget outside and get your body moving.โ€ Fresh air and movement will increase your endorphins, which are the feel-good hormones our bodies make naturally when we exercise.
